Does Quebec RAMQ provide Dexcom CGM coverage?
Yes, Dexcom G7 and Dexcom G6 coverage is available by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).
To receive coverage for Dexcom G6 or Dexcom G7 under RAMQ, you must meet the eligibility requirements for the Public Insurance Plan. In addition, at the start of treatment, if you are :
  • under 18 years of age must have type 1 diabetes;
  • 18 years of age or older must have type 1 diabetes
AND, you must have one or more of the following:
  • Failure to achieve an appropriate glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) value despite taking prescribed medications and testing blood sugar regularly; or
  • Have experienced frequent episodes of hypoglycemia in the past year despite following a treatment plan; or
  • Are not able to recognize or report symptoms of hypoglycemia.
Do I need a prescription to qualify for coverage?
Yes, you will need a valid prescription. However, if you are already using Dexcom G6, no prescription is required, your pharmacist can automatically upgrade you to Dexcom G7.
What do I need to get coverage approval?
The first step is to tell your physician or pharmacist that you’d like to receive a prescription for the Dexcom G6 or Dexcom G7 CGM System.
  1. Complete an Exceptional Medication Form and submit it to RAMQ for approval.
  2. Give you a prescription for Dexcom G6 or Dexcom G7.
  3. Once you have been approved, the pharmacy will process your order for Dexcom CGM supplies.
If you are already approved by RAMQ for Dexcom G6 and would like to start using Dexcom G7, you simply need ask your pharmacist to dispense G7 supplies.
How long am I approved for?
Once approved, your initial request is good for six months. After that, your doctor will reassess your condition annually to determine if you still fulfill the criteria
What if I have private insurance?
Private insurance plans must minimally offer coverage for medications covered by RAMQ.
Most private plans now offer coverage for both Dexcom G6 and G7 even if you do not meet the RAMQ criteria We suggest you contact your insurer for more details or speak to your pharmacist about verifying your coverage.
Where can I get my Dexcom CGM supplies?
Dexcom G6 and G7 sensors must be purchased at your local pharmacy. Individuals who do not have a compatible smart device are eligible for a free G6 or G7 Receiver and should contact Dexcom Customer Service at 1-844-832-1810 (Option 1).
Will I have any out-of-pocket costs?
For any remaining out of pocket costs, the Dexcom G7 Patient Benefit (Copay) program assists in reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket costs, saving patients up to 20%. Download a copy of the program certificate below, which can be redeemed at the pharmacy with a valid Dexcom G7 prescription.
