Using the Follow App
What are the recommended Android phone settings?
Your phone settings can prevent the Dexcom Follow app from working. Learn more about the settings that will allow your app to work as expected. App PauseOn Android 10 and above, Pause temporarily disables apps.
Why was I asked to update my Dexcom Follow app?
The latest Follow release contains important updates to the app that improve user experience and enable Dexcom to better serve its customers.
Does the Follow App work with G6?
Yes, the Follow App works the same way as it did with the Dexcom G5 Mobile. New followers - Download the Dexcom Follow app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Changing Your Sensor and Transmitter
Is Dexcom creating a recycling program for the sensor applicator at launch?
At this time, Dexcom will not have a recycling program. Dexcom recommends that users dispose of the used applicator following local guidelines for blood containing components.
How long does the Dexcom G6 transmitter last?
A G6 transmitter lasts for three months (same as G5 Mobile). Dexcom, Inc. provides a limited warranty to the original Purchaser that the Dexcom G6 transmitter (the "transmitter") is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use.
Setting Up Your Smartphone or Receiver
Is there a new app for the G6?
Yes, the Dexcom G6 app will be available for free download in the Google Play and Apple App Stores. The Dexcom G5 Mobile App will not work with a G6 System and vice versa.
Why does the G6 Android app ask for Location Permission?
We understand you may be concerned about granting this permission, but Dexcom does not use this permission to track your location. The Android Bluetooth implementation we use requires you to give us this level of Location Permission.
How do I set up the Dexcom G6 with my phone?
The Dexcom G6 app has to be downloaded and is different from the Dexcom G5 Mobile app. (Please note: The G6 system will not work with the G5 Mobile app.) It is available for free from the Apple App or Google Play stores. The app is named "Dexcom G6".
What smart devices are compatible with the G6?
A variety of iOS and Android smart devices are compatible with G6. Compatibility is listed here: www.dexcom.com/compatibility
Calibration and Accuracy Issues
Does the G6 accept calibrations?
The option to enter calibrations was included to allow a user to manually calibrate the system in case the start-up calibration code is lost. The system is designed to work properly without calibrations.
Using Your Sensor and Transmitter
Can the sensor be restarted after 10 days?
No. The new Dexcom G6 CGM system is designed to eliminate the need for fingerstick calibrations* and can be used for 10 days without restart.
Do I have to put the sensor code in every time I start a new sensor?
Yes, you'll need to put in the sensor code from the sensor each time you start a new one. The sensor code is found on the bottom of the applicator on the adhesive strip.
Where can I insert my G6 sensor?
Dexcom G6 sensors may be inserted on the abdomen, the back of the upper arm (indicated for patients age 2 years and older) or the upper buttocks (ages 2-17 years).
I lost my sensor code. What do I do?
Without your sensor code, you'll need to calibrate twice after your 2-hour sensor warmup is complete, a third time 12 hours later, a fourth time 12 hours after that, and then once every 24 hours.

Are there any changes with alarms and alerts?
The "Urgent Low Soon" alert is a new alert that can warn users in advance (within 20 minutes) of a severe hypoglycemic event (55 mg/dL or 3.1 mmol/L) ‚ allowing them time to take appropriate action before an event happens.
How do I share my G6 glucose data with followers?
Dexcom Share is a feature within the G6 app that allows for remote monitoring. One person, (the Sharer) may share their CGM data with another person (the Follower). To setup Share simply press the Share icon in the app and follow the onscreen instructions.
Common Activities with Dexcom CGM
What components are required with the new G6 system?
A new Dexcom patient will receive the Dexcom G6 system including a transmitter and sensors. An optional touch screen receiver is available as well. If you decide to use a compatible smart device, you will need to download the new Dexcom G6 app.
Who Can Use Dexcom CGM?
Is this product approved for Pediatrics?
Yes, Dexcom G6 is indicated for children as young as 2 years old.
Inserting and Starting Your Sensor and Transmitter
What is a sensor code and why do I need one?
When you start a new sensor, you must enter a code into your display device to use the G6 without fingerstick calibrations. Each sensor has its own code printed on the back of the adhesive patch. Do not use a code from a different sensor or make up a code.

How do I set up Siri on the G6 app?
With the Dexcom G6 app version 1.9 and later, you can ask Siri to recite your Dexcom glucose readings out loud and display your graph directly on the lock screen.
