Can I use my Dexcom CGM while traveling?

Dexcom CGM systems are designed not to impact your travel. Just follow these instructions.
At security checkpoints
You can wear your Dexcom CGM sensor when going through walk-through metal detectors. Alternatively, you may ask for hand-wanding or a full-body pat-down and visual inspection. Ask for visual inspection of any part of your Dexcom CGM in the baggage scanning machine.
Most security check points require you to temporarily give up your smart device* and receiver. When you are without a display device in a security check point area, use your Blood Glucose (BG) meter for treatment decisions.
To help you prepare for airport security checks and screening procedures for air travel, review any relevant airport websites and travel updates before your trip. We recommend to have your HCP note with you relating to your diabetes management.
On the plane
To use your Dexcom CGM app or receiver to get sensor glucose information while on the plane, follow these instructions:
  • App: Switch smartphone to airplane mode, then turn Bluetooth on
  • Receiver: Keep receiver on
Contact your airline for their policies. Always follow instructions from the airplane crew while on the plane.

Changing Time Zones
Let the date and time on your smartphone automatically update when you travel across time zones or switch between standard and daylight-saving times. Do not manually change your smartphone time, because it can make the time on the trend screen wrong and the app may stop displaying data. You can change the time on your receiver manually.
